Lucy's Five Minutes with Fenton
We caught up with one of our own, Lucy, for five quick-fire questions about her bespoke Fenton engagement ring. As our Creative Director and an artist, she had plenty to say (naturally!) about the design process and the personal touches that make her ring one-of-a-kind.
1. Tell us about your engagement ring
My engagement ring is a cushion and pear cut toi et moi design. It has a vintage-inspired bezel surround to look like a Georgian cut-down setting, which encases a teal sapphire and a Solar Diamond. It’s 18K yellow gold to match the rest of my jewellery.
2. How did you get to the design?
Working for an engagement ring brand meant my husband had quite the challenge on his hands! To give him a helping hand, I sketched out some of my favourite designs and shared them with our bespoke team. That way, he could choose the one he loved most, along with his own pick for the centre stones, while still keeping the final ring a surprise. I’ve kept the original sketches to include in an illustrated book capturing our journey together, as a special keepsake after the wedding.
Another lovely approach we see at Fenton is couples designing the ring together after the proposal - it turns into such a fun and meaningful part of the story. If I wasn’t already deep in the jewellery world, I think I’d have gone for that option myself!
3. What’s your favourite thing about it?
I love that the Toi et Moi design lets you have the best of both - a Diamond and a Sapphire. The Sapphire shifts beautifully in different lights, from deep inky blue to iridescent green.
The Solar Diamond was a no-brainer - guaranteed conflict-free, created using 100% renewable energy, and easy on the budget - it just makes sense.
I love the way my engagement ring sits with my wedding band which I designed recently - although that’s a story for another blog!
4. What advice would you give to someone designing their engagement ring?
A- Don’t be afraid of colour for something truly unique, there’s something very special about the one-of-a kind nature of sapphires, aquas and emeralds.
B - Do think ahead to what your wedding band might be, a wed-fit setting is perfect to make sure the two rings sit seamlessly together.
C - Don’t over think it! There’s so many options out there it can be overwhelming. Peruse pinterest or browse antique shops for inspiration, but trust your instincts to choose what you love. Forget trends, outside opinions or expectations, that way, you’ll still love it just as much in decades to come.
5. What’s next on your jewellery wish list?
I had a pair of Everyday Prasiolite Drops for my wedding which were beautiful, so elevating up my ear stack with more Everyday hoops would be number 1, but my ring addiction runs deep, so a green sapphire signet ring is also on the wish list!
